Southampton is a port city in Hampshire, South East England, United Kingdom. It is located at the mouth of the River Tees and the River Itchen at the confluence of the Solent, and has a long maritime history. As an important passenger and container port in the UK, Southampton is the maritime gateway to mainland Europe.
Southampton is famous as the place where the Titanic set sail and has a rich maritime heritage with medieval walls, Tudor buildings and a maritime museum. Diffa, the capital of the Diffa region in southeastern Niger, is located on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert and shares a border with Nigeria, making it one of the most important border cities in Niger.
