Siguatepeque is the capital of the department of Comayagua, Honduras, located about 80 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Tegucigalpa. The city is about 800 meters above sea level, has a mild and pleasant climate and is one of the best preserved colonial cities in Central America.
With a history of almost 500 years, Siguatepeque's historic center is classified as a National Cultural Heritage of Honduras. The city retains a large number of Spanish colonial buildings, including the Cathedral of St. James and several baroque churches. The famous Shrine of Our Lady of Caridad is one of the most important religious pilgrimage sites in the region.
The region's economy is based on agriculture, producing coffee, sugar cane and tobacco. Siguatepeque is also known for its traditional handicrafts, especially painted pottery and leather goods. Tourism has grown rapidly in recent years, and tourists can visit colonial buildings, museums and the surrounding natural landscape.
Siguatepeque is located in the center of Honduras, with a network of roads connecting the capital to the main coastal cities. Surrounded by green mountains and just an hour's drive from the famous La Tigra National Park, the city is a great base for exploring central Honduras.
