Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia: A Blue Fairytale Town in the Mediterranean Sea

Located 20 kilometers northeast of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, Sidi Bou Said is one of the most charming towns on the Mediterranean coast. The town is famous for its unique blue and white architecture and is known as the "Blue Pearl".

A perfect blend of art and history

The town is perched on a steep cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Its signature blue windows and doors contrast with the snow-white walls, a decorative tradition dating back to the early 1900s when the color blue was said to repel mosquitoes. The narrow cobblestone streets are lined with art galleries, craft stores and traditional cafes.

Cultural heritage and tourist attraction

Sidi Bou Said is not only Tunisia's most important tourist destination, but also a member of the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. Famous landmarks include the Café Haria in the central square and numerous Andalusian-style courtyard houses. Visitors can admire the exquisite wrought iron window treatments, carved wooden gates and traditional mosaic work.

Transportation and best time to visit

The TGM light rail train takes about 40 minutes from the center of Tunis. The best time to visit is during the spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) when the weather is pleasant. Visitors are advised to set aside half a day to stroll through the town, experience the local mint tea culture and photograph the Mediterranean sunsets.

Overview of Sao Tome and Principe (note on "Java")

São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
