The local economy is based on agriculture, producing cassava, corn and other crops, and the livestock industry also has a certain scale. Although the city is not large, it has basic market and medical facilities, and is the business and service center of the surrounding area. The inhabitants of Sibu are mostly Gbaya and Banda, and there is a strong traditional cultural atmosphere, with local handicrafts and traditional dances. Despite challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, Sibut plays an important role in the development of central Central Africa by virtue of its geographical and cultural advantages.
