Shouxian County, Anhui Province: Ancient City along the Huai River with a Thousand-Year-Old Ch'u Charm

Shouxian County, anciently known as Shouchun and Shouzhou, is located in the central part of Anhui Province, along the Huaihe River, and is a famous national historical and cultural city, as well as an excellent tourist city in China. As the last capital of Chu, this is the ancient battlefield of the Battle of the Interfluve, from which the allusion to "under the Bakong Mountain, the grass and trees are soldiers" originates. The existing ancient city wall of Shouchun was built in the Northern Song Dynasty, and is one of the most well-preserved ancient city walls in China. The city's ancient streets and alleys, and the remains of the Anfeng Pond (an ancient water conservancy project) carry a rich history. Shouxian is also the birthplace of tofu, and the legend of "Bakongshan Tofu" is related to Liu An, the King of Huainan. Nowadays, this ancient city, which is a blend of Chu style and Han rhythm, has activated its thousand-year heritage with the integration of culture and tourism, and has become a unique and charming cultural landmark in the middle of Anhui Province.
