Shaodong City is located in the east-central part of Hunan Province, China, and is a county-level city under the administration of Shaoyang City, located in the hinterland of central Hunan. It has a total area of 1,778 square kilometers and a resident population of about 900,000 people. As a national important commodity distribution center and a strong industrial county, Shaodong is known as the "City of Commerce", the "Capital of Bags" and the "Hometown of Lighters".
Shaodong has the largest wholesale market of small commodities in the south-central region, and the production of hardware tools, lighters and bags accounts for an important share of the world. 2022 GDP exceeds 70 billion yuan, and the activity of the private economy ranks the forefront in Hunan Province, which has already formed the cluster development mode of "small commodities, big industries".
The city is connected to several major transportation routes, including the Hukun High Speed Railway and the Hengshao Expressway, and is about a 2-hour drive from Changsha Huanghua Airport. The history of the city can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty, which gave birth to famous people such as Kuang Husheng and He Luting, and there are cultural heritages such as the ruins of Zhaoyang Houcheng and the Ming and Qing architectural complexes. The dialect belongs to the Lou Shao piece of the Xiang language. Specialties include Shaodong tofu and pig's blood meatballs.
