Tongchuan City is located in the center of Shaanxi Province, China, which is the transition zone between the Guanzhong Plain and the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province. As a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province, Tongchuan is famous for its coal resources, and has historically been an important energy base in China, known as the "Coal City".
The city's rich cultural heritage, such as the Medicine King Mountain (in honor of the Tang Dynasty physician Sun Simiao) and the ruins of Yaosu Kilns (one of the six major kilns of the Song Dynasty), underscores its deep historical roots. Tongchuan has a temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and a diverse natural environment that includes mountainous, hilly and river valley landscapes.
Economically, Tongchuan is diversifying from the traditional energy industry, focusing on cultural tourism, modern agriculture and new energy development. Transportation is convenient, connecting it to major cities such as Xi'an through a network of highways and railroads. With its unique historical, cultural and ecological resources, Tongchuan is one of the regional centers with development potential in Shaanxi Province.
