Its name is derived from the Arabic word "Marsa" meaning "harbor", reflecting the city's long history of maritime trade.

History and Location

Marsa covers an area of approximately 2.8 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 5,000. It has been an important anchorage since Phoenician times, with the Knights building docking facilities in the 16th century and a British naval base in modern times.
