Sevan is a small town in the Armenian province of Gegharkunik, located in the eastern part of the country on the shores of Lake Sevan, about 66 kilometers from the capital city of Yerevan. The town is famous for its eponymous alpine lake, Lake Sevan, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Eurasia, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level, which is known as the "Pearl of Armenia".
Lake Sevan is surrounded by magnificent landscapes and crystal clear waters, making it an important tourist and recreational destination in Armenia. The town boasts historical monuments such as the Sevan Monastery, a 9th-century monastery situated on a peninsula overlooking the lake, which attracts many tourists and pilgrims. The local economy is based on fishing, tourism and agriculture, and the climate is cool enough for summer vacations.
With a population of around 20,000, the town of Sevan retains its traditional Armenian culture, while the infrastructure is constantly being improved to provide accommodation and catering services. Marneuli is a major city in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia, located about 30 kilometers south of the capital city of Tbilisi, adjacent to the Armenian and Azerbaijani borders. As an agricultural and transportation hub in southern Georgia, the city is known for its multicultural mix, with a predominantly Azerbaijani population, as well as Georgian, Armenian, and other groups living in the city.
Marneuli is located in the plains along the Kura River, with a mild climate and a well-developed agricultural industry that produces grapes, wheat and fruits, and winemaking is a traditional industry in the region. The city's economy is based on agro-processing, trade and logistics, and thanks to its proximity to the border, it has become a regional distribution center for goods. The nearby Marneuli military base is an important defense facility for Georgia.
Marneuli has a long history and is surrounded by medieval churches and ruins, reflecting traces of Georgia's interaction with neighboring civilizations. The local Azerbaijani culture has a strong influence, with traditional festivals, music and cuisine blending with the Caucasus. Despite its small size, the city's diverse neighborhoods demonstrate Georgia's cultural inclusiveness.
