Built on the lake, the city has a tropical grassland climate that gives it a mild and humid environment, and the lakeshore area is so beautiful that it is known as the "African Riviera". Although limited by infrastructure development, the local area combines traditional African flavor with colonial architecture, and the central market attracts tourists with handicrafts, bird ecology of Lake Ngozi and the annual "Bujumbura Cultural Festival". As Burundi's gateway city, Bujumbura plays an important role in regional trade and culture.
