Alashankou, located in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, is an important border crossing between China and Kazakhstan, and also the western bridgehead of the Chinese section of the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge. As the core node of the "Belt and Road" initiative, it integrates railroad, highway, pipeline and aviation, and is the necessary passage for China-Europe liner trains ("YuXinOu", "ZhengXinOu", etc.).
