Santo Domingo is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic, located on the southeast coast of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Founded by Spanish colonizers in 1496, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited European settlements in the Americas, with a rich heritage and a unique blend of cultures.
The colonial city of Santo Domingo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and retains 16th-century buildings such as the first cathedral in the Americas and the Alcázar de Colón.
