Santo Domingo is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic, located on the southeast coast of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Founded by Spanish colonizers in 1496, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited European settlements in the Americas, with a rich heritage and a unique blend of cultures.
The colonial city of Santo Domingo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and retains 16th-century buildings such as the first cathedral in the Americas and the Alcázar de Colón. The city is a blend of Spanish, African and Taino cultures and is known for its merengue, music festivals and traditional cuisine.
As the economic center of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo relies on trade, tourism and services. Popular attractions include the Malecon Promenade, Three Eyes National Park and the modern business district, which draws visitors to enjoy the beaches, historical exploration and vibrant nightlife.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
