Holyoke is the county seat of Phillips County in the Eastern Plains region of the U.S. state of Colorado, founded in 1888 and named after H.C. Holyoke, an early railroad engineer. Located about 200 miles northeast of Denver and with a population of about 2,300, this small farming community is the center of the surrounding agricultural trade, with an economy dominated by wheat, corn, and sorghum farming and livestock. The area retains a typical western small-town feel, with historic buildings such as the Phillips County Courthouse (built in 1912) serving as landmarks, and the Phillips County Fair is an important community event that draws residents from around the area each fall. The flat terrain around Holly lends itself to stargazing and outdoor experiences, and although small in size, it showcases the rusticity and energy of Colorado's eastern plains.
