Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country. Herat is the capital of Herat Province in western Afghanistan, close to the Iranian border, and is the third largest city in Afghanistan, which has been an important hub of the Silk Road since ancient times. Historically ruled by the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great and Timurid Empire, the city is a blend of Persian, Greek and Islamic cultures, with many historical sites such as Herat Castle and Jami Mosque. As a center of agriculture and handicrafts, it is famous for carpet weaving and pottery making, and is still the gateway of trade from Afghanistan to West Asia, carrying a deep historical heritage and memory of cultural integration.
