Historically, Samu was an important stronghold during Timor-Leste's War of Independence, and remnants of the resistance movement still remain in the area, attracting history buffs to explore. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and close to Mount Ramelau, Timor-Leste's highest peak, making it a stopover for hiking enthusiasts. A blend of traditional Timacu culture and modern townscape, Samu offers a unique look at the interior of Timor-Leste.
Hachita, located in Sierra County in southwestern New Mexico, USA, is a small community of less than a hundred people located on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, only about 32 kilometers from the Mexican border. Founded in the late 19th century, the town sprang up as a result of nearby silver and gold mining, and still retains the remnants of the 19th-century mines and a rustic western flavor. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the area is known for its vast desert landscapes, clear night skies and abundant wildlife, making it ideal for hiking, stargazing and experiencing pristine nature. As one of the gateways to the Coronado National Forest, Hachita, though small, carries the historical memory and natural charm of New Mexico's borderlands.
