Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country. It is known for its coffee farming, surrounded by terraced fields that produce Timor-Leste's premium Arabica coffee beans. Historically, Samu was an important stronghold during Timor-Leste's War of Independence, and remnants of the resistance movement still remain in the area, attracting history buffs to explore. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and close to Mount Ramelau, Timor-Leste's highest peak, making it a stopover for hiking enthusiasts. A blend of traditional Timacu culture and modern townscape, Samu offers a unique look at the interior of Timor-Leste.
Guanyin is located in the western part of Taoyuan City, Taiwan Province of China, and is one of the important administrative districts of Taoyuan City. Formerly known as "Shi Guanyin", the area was named after the discovery of a natural stone statue resembling the Goddess of Mercy during the Qing Dynasty. As the core of Taoyuan's coastal development, Guanyin District is home to an important industrial area (Guanyin Industrial Park) and Taiwan's first large-scale wind farm, while preserving rich wetland ecology and agricultural landscapes (such as lotus fields). Local attractions include the Ganquan Temple (dedicated to the stone Guanyin statue), the Caoluo Sand Dunes Geopark, and the White Jade Algae Reef Protected Area, demonstrating a unique blend of nature and humanity.
Bordered by the Taiwan Strait to the west, Guanyin is a flat area with well-developed agriculture, famous for rice, watermelon, and lotus flower cultivation. In recent years, it has relied on the Taoyuan Science and Technology Industrial Park to promote industrial upgrading, covering the fields of machinery, electronics, and green energy. The wind power generation facilities along its coastline contrast with the algal reef ecosystem, making it a key area for environmental education and eco-tourism.
The local faith center, Gansenji Temple, hosts an annual celebration of the birth of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, which attracts a large number of believers. The Lotus Flower Season combines agriculture and tourism to showcase the local industry and culture. Traditional Minnan settlement architecture and coastal folk culture have been preserved here, presenting the unique scenery of Taiwan's northwest coast.
