Dikhil is a city in the southwestern part of the African country of Djibouti and the capital of the Dikhil region, located about 100 kilometers southwest of the capital city of Djibouti, near the Ethiopian border. The second most important town in Djibouti, Dikhil is situated on a landlocked plateau at an altitude of about 760 meters above sea level, and has a relatively cool and dry climate, making it one of the few regions in Djibouti suitable for agriculture. The local economy is based on animal husbandry (camels, goats) and a small amount of agriculture, but in recent years the proximity to the border trade routes has led to a gradual increase in commercial activity. The natural landscape around Dikhil is unique, with geological wonders such as Lake Abbe, which attracts some tourists to explore it and is an important window into the culture and ecology of Djibouti's interior.
