Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country. Akodat is an inland city in the Gash Barka Region of western Eritrea, located about 120 kilometers southwest of the capital Asmara in the semi-arid highlands of the Horn of Africa. As a regional agricultural center, the surrounding area is mainly planted with drought-tolerant crops such as cotton, sesame, and sorghum, with a certain amount of animal husbandry. The city has a hot and dry climate, with average annual temperatures of around 25-30°C and precipitation concentrated between July and September. Despite its relatively simple infrastructure, the area retains a traditional African bazaar culture, with a vibrant trade in handicrafts and agricultural products. Akodat is an important node connecting western Eritrea to the Ethiopian border, functioning as both an agricultural settlement and a regional transportation hub, and showcasing the unique geography and culture of the western part of the country.
