Beit Jin is a small town in Rif Dimashq, Syria, located about 30 kilometers southwest of the capital city of Damascus, in the foothills of the East Lebanon Mountains, surrounded by rolling hills and fertile agricultural land. The town is steeped in history, possibly boasting remnants of Ottoman-era architecture, and has traditionally depended on agriculture for its livelihood, growing crops such as grains, olives and grapes, and in recent years has developed a small artisanal industry as well. Beitfin combines the tranquility of the Syrian countryside with its historical heritage, and although small in size, it presents a typical picture of the central part of the country, and is a window into the local culture and natural landscape of Syria.
