Ventoso is one of the nine castles (administrative districts) of the Republic of San Marino, located on the south side of Mount Titano, at an altitude of about 500 meters. Its name derives from the Italian word "windy place" and it is famous for the strong winds that characterize the climate of the ridge. With an area of about 3.3 square kilometers and a population of about 1,200, it is one of the least populated administrative districts of San Marino.
Ventoso, with the remains of its medieval walls and traditional stone house architecture, preserves the ancient agrarian and pastoral character of San Marino. It is geographically close to the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, with a view of the Adriatic Sea. The area is covered with olive groves and vineyards and the local production of olive oil and wine is an important specialty.
Visitors can explore on foot the "Ventoso Trail", San Marino's oldest footpath, and visit the 13th century church of Santa Maria. The "Ventoso Festival", which takes place every September, combines traditional music with mountain cultural experiences. As part of San Marino's World Heritage, the area attracts travelers with its peaceful mountain scenery and original historical atmosphere.
