Ruse is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria, located in the northeast of the country on the south bank of the Danube River, across the river from the Romanian city of Giurgiu. It is an important river port and industrial center of Bulgaria, and enjoys the reputation of "Little Vienna" due to its many neo-Baroque and neo-Rococo buildings.
Ruse has a long history and its strategic location made it an important trade and cultural crossroads.
