Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
Nyamagabe, formerly known as Gikongoro, is an important city in the southern province of Rwanda, located about 150 kilometers south of the capital city of Kigali. The city is situated in rolling hills at an average elevation of about 2,000 meters above sea level and is known for its cool climate and fertile volcanic soil.
Nyamagabe is close to the famous Nyamuta Massacre Memorial, an important place to reflect on Rwanda's history. The local population is predominantly Hutu and Tutsi, and traditional crafts such as weaving and wood carving remain intact. An annual cultural festival showcases unique dances, drumming and banana beer brewing techniques.
The region's economy is based on coffee and tea cultivation, and its highland coffee is renowned on the international market. Nyamagabe is bordered by the Nyunwe Forest National Park, which boasts the oldest rainforest in Africa and is an eco-tourism destination for bird watching and primate tracking.
Connected to Kigali via the RN2 road, medical centers and educational facilities have been gradually improved in recent years. The government is promoting a development model that combines eco-agriculture and sustainable tourism, making it an iconic city for the development of Rwanda's southern mountains.
