Ruby is a small incorporated town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, located about 60 miles northeast of the state capital of Baton Rouge and adjacent to the Mississippi border, and characterized by a quiet rural atmosphere and a deep community culture. Sparsely populated, with fewer than 500 people according to the most recent census, the town dates back to the late 1800s and, with its early rise to an agricultural economy (e.g., cotton and soybean farming), still retains the rustic look of a traditional Southern town. The town's landmarks include a century-old community church and several Victorian-style homes, and the annual fall "Ruby Family Day," which blends elements of local Cajun and Creole culture, has become a shared memory for the surrounding residents. Despite its small size, Ruby epitomizes the serenity of the American countryside with its simple folk and distinctive Louisiana southern flavor.
Meigu County belongs to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China, located in the southwest of Sichuan, in the hinterland of the Greater Liangshan Mountains. The county has a predominantly Yi population, accounting for more than 98% of the total population, and is an important birthplace and preservation site of Yi culture. Meigu County, whose name is derived from the Yi word "Mogu" meaning "beautiful place", is between 1,000 and 4,000 meters above sea level, and its terrain is dominated by mountains and plateaus.
Meigu is famous for its rich Yi traditional culture, including the Year of the Yi, the Torch Festival, the Pimo culture and the art of dress. It is an important inheritance area for the national intangible cultural heritages of Yi embroidery and Yi silver jewelry. Meigu is also famous for its natural landscape, with the Dafengding National Nature Reserve, rich in biodiversity and a popular destination for hiking and eco-tourism.
The economy is based on agriculture, with corn, potatoes and buckwheat being grown, while animal husbandry, such as cattle and sheep farming, is also well developed. In recent years, Meigu has been actively developing cultural tourism and eco-industries to help revitalize the countryside. In terms of transportation, Meigu is connected to neighboring counties and cities by highway, and is gradually improving its infrastructure to promote development.
