Rudput is a major city in the Gauteng province of South Africa, located about 20 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg and is part of the Johannesburg metropolitan area. As a major industrial and economic center of South Africa, the city is known for its mining and manufacturing industries, especially for its historically rich gold resources.
Roodepoort was founded in 1889 and derives its name from the Dutch word for "quiet land". With the discovery of the Witwatersrand gold belt, the city quickly became a mining town. Today, the economy is diversified into manufacturing, logistics and services, with numerous industrial areas and commercial facilities.
The city is situated in the High Steppe region, at an altitude of about 1,700 meters above sea level, with a mild and dry climate.
