The natural environment around Longuyon is beautiful, with extensive forests and idyllic landscapes for outdoor activities and leisure excursions. The local economy is based on small-scale industry, agriculture and cross-border trade, and the friendly community atmosphere, with its mix of French and Luxembourgish culture, makes it an ideal place to experience rural life in north-eastern France.
Chongming District is the only county-level municipal district under the jurisdiction of Shanghai Municipality, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, consisting of Chongming Island, Changxing Island and Hengsha Island. As the world's largest estuarine alluvial island and the third largest island in China, Chongming is known as the "Gateway to the Yangtze River and Yingzhou in the East China Sea", and was formally included in the administrative scope of Shanghai Municipality after the county was abolished and established as a district in 2016.
Chongming Island is classified as a wetland of international importance, and has the Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve and the Chinese Sturgeon Nature Reserve at the mouth of the Yangtze River. With over 30% forest coverage, the island is an important ecological barrier for Shanghai. Attractions such as Xisha Wetland, Dongping National Forest Park and Yingdong Village Fisherman's Paradise attract a large number of tourists, and the island will be certified as an "International Wetland City" in 2021.
Chongming focuses on the development of eco-agriculture, clean energy and recreational tourism industries, and produces high-quality rice, Jinsha mandarin oranges, Chongming Old White Wine and other specialty products. As an important part of the Yangtze River Delta Eco-Green Integrated Development Demonstration Zone, it is making every effort to build a world-class eco-island, and the Shanghai-Chongqing-Rongzhou high-speed railroad under construction will set up a station in Chongming, which will further enhance the status of the regional transportation hub.
