Founded in the mid-19th century by the American Colonization Society and named after Liberia's first president, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, the city retains colonial architecture, such as the old stone church and wharf. The economy is based on fishing and trade, and the surrounding waters are rich in tuna and shrimp, which are the main livelihood of the local population. In addition, Robertsport is known for its excellent beaches and surfing conditions, which attracts a small number of international tourists, and the surrounding Prome Point National Park, which preserves rainforests and habitats for endangered species, offers both historical and natural attractions.
