Risalpindi is located in the north-eastern part of the Punjab province of Pakistan, close to the capital city of Islamabad, and forms a central part of the Islamabad-Rawalpindu metropolitan area. As a historic military and industrial town, it is home to important military installations such as the Pakistan Army Headquarters, and is the transportation hub of the north, connecting the country's major cities. The economy is based on textiles, machinery manufacturing and trade, with a thriving market for agricultural products, and the surrounding area is rich in wheat and cotton.
