Ribera Afonso is the central beachfront area of the city of São Tomé, capital of the African island nation of São Tomé and Principe, located on the northeast coast of São Tomé and bordering the Atlantic Ocean. As an important hub for the country's politics, economy and culture, it is home to a concentration of colonial Portuguese architectural styles, with colorful houses set against the blue waters of the sea, forming a unique cityscape. Ribeira Alfonso is also home to São Tomé's main port, where fishing and trading activities are active, and is at the center of national affairs due to its proximity to the Presidential Palace, the Central Market and other key facilities. In terms of tourism, visitors are attracted by its pleasant climate and historic district, which is a window on São Tomé and Principe's blend of African and Portuguese culture.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
