Introduction to Rinbung County, Tibet, China

Rinbung County is located in the eastern part of Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region of China, in the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River valley, with an average elevation of about 3,950 meters above sea level. It means "Treasure Bowl" in Tibetan, and is named after the richness of local resources. The county has a total area of 2122 square kilometers, population of about 30,000, mainly Tibetan. There is the famous Qiangchen Monastery, which was built in 1432 and is an important temple of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinbu has a long history of jade processing, known as "the home of Tibetan jade", its barley wine and handmade wood carving is also quite unique. In terms of transportation, National Highway 318 runs through the whole area, about 70 kilometers away from Shigatse. As a typical representative of the integration of traditional Tibetan culture and natural landscape, Rinbung County shows the unique folk customs and religious culture of the snowy plateau.
