Remiel-Moncholy is the third largest city of French Guiana in the French Overseas Region, located about 15 kilometers south of Cayenne on the Atlantic coast. The city was formed in 2019 by the merger of the two former municipalities of Rémyr and Montjoli, and is now one of the major administrative and commercial centers of French Guiana.
The city is located in a tropical rainforest climate zone with an average annual temperature of about 27°C and abundant precipitation. It is adjacent to the famous Kourou Space Center (European Space Launch Complex) in the west and to the Atlantic coastline in the east, with a unique mangrove ecosystem and beach landscape.
Thanks to its proximity to the Kourou Space Center, Rémyré-Montjorie is an important support point for the services of the aerospace industry chain. The local economy is dominated by services, commerce and aerospace support industries, while traditional fishing and agricultural activities are maintained.
As a multicultural mix, Rémyré-Montjoli incorporates elements of Creole, French and Brazilian cultures. Visitors can explore colonial architecture, participate in Mardi Gras celebrations, or observe Amazonian wildlife at the neighboring Rémyré Zoo, an important gateway to experience the natural and human characteristics of French Guiana.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
