Karshi is the capital of the Kashkadarya Oblast of Uzbekistan, located in the southeastern part of the country, about 140 kilometers from Samarkand. The city is an important agricultural and industrial center, known for its cotton cultivation, silk production and food processing. Karshi has a long history, dating back to the 14th century during the Timurid Empire, and was once a trading hub on the Silk Road.
Karshi is situated in an oasis plain with a dry climate, and its economy is based on agriculture, with an abundance of fruits and cereals. In recent years, light and energy industries have gradually developed. The city has a well-developed infrastructure, with railroads and highways connecting it to major cities such as Tashkent.
Karshi retains ancient mosques and mausoleums, such as the 16th-century Odin Mosque, which attract history buffs. Traditional local handicrafts and Uzbek cuisine are also unique, making it an ideal place to experience Central Asian culture.
Same, the capital of Timor-Leste's Ainaro District, is located about 50 kilometers south of the capital, Dili, in the mountainous interior and is an important agricultural and transportation hub for the country. It is known for its coffee farming, surrounded by terraced fields that produce Timor-Leste's premium Arabica coffee beans. Historically, Samu was an important stronghold during Timor-Leste's War of Independence, and remnants of the resistance movement still remain in the area, attracting history buffs to explore. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty and close to Mount Ramelau, Timor-Leste's highest peak, making it a stopover for hiking enthusiasts. A blend of traditional Timacu culture and modern townscape, Samu offers a unique look at the interior of Timor-Leste.
