As one of the country's main oil export hubs, the port relies on the rich oil resources in the surrounding area, and its economy is centered on energy trade and shipping, as well as being an important gateway connecting the inland oil-producing regions with international markets. In addition to its industrial functions, Puerto de la Cruz is known for its tropical seaside scenery, with quality beaches such as Playa El Aguilillo, and is surrounded by natural wonders such as the Medanos National Park, which attracts many tourists who come to experience water sports and eco-tourism. With its warm and humid climate, the city combines the energy of a port with the relaxation of a seaside resort, making it a key city in the northeast of Venezuela for both economic and tourist value.
