Located in Jambi province on the Indonesian island of West Sumatra, Mount Singalang is an active stratovolcano in the Barisan mountain range, with an elevation of about 2,460 meters above sea level. The volcano is known for its frequent small-scale eruptions, which release ash, lava flows and toxic gases, and there are volcano monitoring stations in the surrounding area to track the activity in real time. Although the intensity of the eruptions is usually low, the ash can cause aviation disruptions and potentially affect local agriculture and the health of the population.
