Pikine (Dakar) is the capital city of Senegal, located on the westernmost tip of the Cape Verde Peninsula, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, and is the political, economic and cultural center of the country. As a major port city in West Africa, Pikine has a busy trade hub and a multicultural community of over 3 million people. The city is known for its fishing industry and vibrant coastal markets; landmarks such as the African Renaissance Monument overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and the island of Gorée, a former slave trade transit point, now stands as a World Heritage Site. Pikine also attracts tourists from around the globe for its music, art and beach culture, and is a key gateway for exploring West Africa.
Molle St. Nicolas is the capital of the Northwest Department of Haiti, located on the Caribbean coast in the northwest of the country, about 30 kilometers west of Cap-Haïtien. Named for Christopher Columbus' first landing in Haiti in 1492, this historic town is rich in colonial relics such as old forts and churches. The local economy is based on fishing and agriculture (e.g., sugar cane and coffee farming), and in recent years has been gradually attracting small-scale eco-tourism with its unique beach culture and historical landscape. As an important coastal town in Haiti, Molle St. Nicholas combines natural beauty with human heritage and is a gateway for exploring the history and nature of northwestern Haiti.
