Philipsburg is the capital of Dutch St. Maarten, located in the northern part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. Set on a narrow sandbar facing the beautiful Simpson Bay lagoon, the city is known for its bustling cruise port, duty-free shopping and vibrant waterfront atmosphere.
Phillipsburg is a well-known tourist destination with two main shopping streets, Front Street and Back Street, filled with jewelry stores, electronics stores and local specialty markets. Great Bay Beach is a popular spot for visitors to relax, offering water sports and beach dining. Historical landmarks such as the Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1792, also add to the cultural appeal.
As the political and economic center of Dutch St. Maarten, Phillipsburg's blend of Dutch Caribbean flavor and cosmopolitan amenities attracts a large number of cruise ship tourists and vacationers each year, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the island's north-south division (shared with French St. Maarten).
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
