Kushka is the capital of the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, located in the far southwestern part of the country, adjacent to the border with Afghanistan, making it the closest important border city of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan. Historically, Kushka was a trading post on the ancient Silk Road and developed into a military and transportation hub during the Soviet period. Today, the city, with its unique geographic location, is a key node for Turkmenistan's border trade with Afghanistan and a potential link between Central and South Asia. With a typical temperate continental arid climate and surrounded by desert and semi-desert landscapes, Kushka is a small but strategically important city. In recent years, the Government of Turkmenistan has gradually increased its investment in infrastructure in Kushka, promoting it as a frontier city for regional economic cooperation.
