Opština Kičevo is located in the western part of the Republic of North Macedonia, in the southern foothills of the Šar Mountains, next to the Albanian border, and is an important node connecting the Balkan interior with the Adriatic region. Kičevo, the capital city, has a long history dating back to the Roman period, and the Byzantine and Slavic cultures mingled here during the Middle Ages, and remains such as a medieval monastery and an Ottoman-era bell tower still exist, demonstrating the overlapping imprints of multiple civilizations. The area is mainly agricultural, producing apples, grapes and other agricultural products. In recent years, the area has developed eco-tourism based on its natural landscape, with the neighboring Galičica National Park being a perfect place for hiking and bird-watching in the mountains. The population is diverse, with Macedonian and Albanian ethnic groups living in harmony, and traditional crafts and folklore festivals retaining a strong local flavor, making it a unique cultural and geographical unit in Western North Macedonia.
