Ntcheu is the capital of Ntcheu District in southern Malawi, located on the border with Mozambique, on the plateau of the Upper Shire River, with an average altitude of about 1,000 meters, and a mild and pleasant climate. As an important agricultural town in Malawi, Ncheu is a regional distribution center for agricultural products, with a focus on cash crops such as tobacco, maize, and tea. Ntcheu is also known for its traditional handicrafts, especially wood carving and basket weaving, which is a blend of the culture of the local Chewa tribe. The city is surrounded by natural landscapes, such as the Ntcheu Mountains and forest reserves, which are suitable for eco-tourism. Despite its small size, Ntcheu plays an important role in regional economic and cultural exchanges as a transportation node and commercial center connecting the north and south of Malawi.
Mariehamn, the capital and only city of the Finnish Aland Islands, is located in the southern part of Finland on the Baltic Sea and is the political, economic and cultural center of the autonomous region.
