Khorog is the capital of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast of Tajikistan, located in the southeastern part of the Pamir Plateau, at the junction of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and China, and is the transportation and cultural center of the Pamir region. The city is located in the valley at an altitude of about 2200 meters, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, magnificent scenery, known as the "Pearl of the Pamirs". The Khorodo River passes through the city, nourishing the land, and the local residents, mainly Tajiks, retain their traditional nomadic culture and handicrafts. As an important node on the Silk Road, Khorog is an ideal starting point for exploring the natural and human charms of the Pamir Plateau, with its multicultural mix of Central Asian influences and neighboring regions.
