Mangodara is the main city of the eastern region of Burkina Faso, near the border with Niger and in the Sahelian belt. As the capital of the province of Comanga, the city is a regional trade and transportation hub, known for its livestock market and multi-ethnic cultural exchanges.
Mangodara has a savannah climate with a long dry season (October to May) and an average annual temperature of about 30°C. The city is surrounded by a semi-arid landscape. Semi-arid landscapes dominate around the city, with the seasonal river Gurma as an important source of water, and agriculture based on millet and sorghum cultivation and animal husbandry.
Weekly livestock fairs attract traders from neighboring countries, and there is an active trade in camels, cattle and sheep. The Gurma, Fulani and other ethnic groups live in the area, and traditional mud architecture and Islamic culture predominate. Nomadic cultural festivals are held every year during the dry season, showcasing leather crafts and folk music.
