Located in the central Iranian province of Isfahan, Mavdashahr is a historic inland city nestled in the fertile plains of the northern foothills of the Zagros Mountains. The city is famous for its well-preserved traditional Persian architecture and simple folkways. The mud-brick houses, winding alleys and centuries-old bazaars in the old town vividly demonstrate the atmosphere of life in the central highlands of Iran. The local economy is based on agriculture, producing wheat, cotton and other crops, and the handicrafts of carpet weaving and copperware making are particularly outstanding, with each piece of work uniting the craftsmen's exquisite skills. Despite its small size, Mafdashat has become a unique window to experience traditional Iranian life due to its natural environment away from the hustle and bustle and its deep cultural heritage.
