Located in the state of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil, Mariana is one of the oldest cities in the state, founded in 1696. An important historical center of Brazil's Golden Week, Mariana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts many visitors with its baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage.
The city is located in a region rich in iron ore and is surrounded by large mining companies operating in the vicinity. In 2015, a tailings dam failure near Mariana caused significant environmental and social impacts, putting the site at the center of a global discussion on mining safety.
Visitors can visit colonial buildings such as the San Francisco Church and the Municipal Museum, and experience traditional festivals and local cuisine. With its tranquil atmosphere and deep history, Mariana is an important stop on the cultural tourism route in Minas Gerais.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
