María La Baja is a city in the Bolivarian Department of Colombia, located on the Caribbean coast, about 80 kilometers from the capital city of Cartagena. The region has a predominantly tropical climate, with mostly plains and hills, and agriculture is the mainstay of the local economy, with rice, maize, cassava and other crops grown, as well as a certain scale of animal husbandry.
