Maracay is the capital of the Venezuelan state of Aragua, located about 80 kilometers west of the capital Caracas, and is an important industrial and cultural city of the country. Founded in 1701, the city has a rich historical heritage and colonial architecture, such as the Church of San José and the Cathedral of Maracay.
As an important industrial hub in Venezuela, Maracay is known for its petrochemical, textile and food processing industries. The surrounding area is rich in oil resources and has attracted investment from several international energy companies.
