Known for its fisheries and agriculture, this lake-side city is surrounded by tea, tobacco and maize, with Lake Malawi's rich fishing industry supporting the local livelihood, and Mangochi's proximity to the famous Salima Bay Resort as a transit point for tourists exploring the lakes and mountains is a draw for the city. Although infrastructure is still being developed, its diverse Chichwa cultural background and tropical lakeside flavor make it a window into life in southern Malawi.
