Makariev is a historic city in Kostroma Oblast, Russia, located on the banks of the Vinzha River, about 180 kilometers from Kostroma, the capital of the oblast. The city takes its name from the 15th century St. Makariev Monastery, which was once an important center of the Russian Orthodox Church. Famous for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, Makariev is an ideal destination for exploring the history and religious architecture of the Russian countryside.
