Maplaka is a major city in the Eastern Province of the West African country of Sierra Leone, situated in the Eastern Highlands region of the country, near the Guinean border. As the capital of Koinadugu District, the city is a regional administrative, commercial and transportation hub with a population of about 150,000 people.
Maplaka is located in the eastern savannah climate zone of Sierra Leone, with distinct wet and dry seasons and an average annual temperature of about 27°C. The city is surrounded by a hilly terrain. The hilly terrain surrounding the city is rich in forests and agricultural land, and the main river, the Koyna, provides an important source of water for the region.
The economy is based on agriculture, with cash crops such as palm, coffee and cocoa. Mining has developed significantly in recent years, with diamond and gold resources being explored in the surrounding area. Traditional handicrafts such as weaving and wood carving are also a local specialty.
The city retains its traditional Mende culture and has a vibrant local market. The city is connected to the capital Freetown and Kenema by the A8 road, and has a regional medical center and basic education institutions, making it an important node for public services in the Eastern Province.
São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in west-central Africa, consisting of the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe and the surrounding islets, with the capital, São Tomé, located in the northeastern part of São Tomé. Located on the Gulf of Guinea, about 200 kilometers from the African continent, the country was colonized by Portugal in the 15th century and became independent in 1975, with Portuguese as the official language and an economy based on agriculture (cocoa, palm oil) and tourism. It should be noted that "Java" is not a city or region of the country; Java is the main island of Indonesia, with cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya, and has nothing to do with São Tomé and Príncipe, possibly due to a confusion of names.
