Mado County is located in Goluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, China, in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, with an average altitude of more than 4,200 meters, and is known as the "County of a Thousand Lakes". As the source of the Yellow River, its ecological status is extremely important, and it is the core area of the Sanjiangyuan National Park.
Mardo has a group of plateau freshwater lakes, such as Zaling Lake and Eling Lake, as well as magnificent landforms, such as the Ba Yan Ka La Mountains. The typical highland cold climate makes the area long and cold in winter and short and cool in summer. The unique biodiversity makes it a habitat for rare species such as Tibetan antelope and wild yak.
The local area is dominated by Tibetan culture, preserving the traditional nomadic life and religious customs. The main attractions include the Yellow River Source Monument, the Ox-Head Monument and natural wonders such as the Sea of Starry Nights, which are suitable for eco-tourism, photographic adventure and plateau cultural experience activities. It should be noted that the high-altitude environment requires tourists to prepare for health adaptation in advance.
