Overview of Mabian Yi Autonomous County, Sichuan, China

Mabian Yi Autonomous County is located in the south of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China, in the Xiaoliangshan Mountain area, which is one of the important birthplaces of Yi culture. The county covers an area of 2,383 square kilometers, with predominantly mountainous terrain, significant differences in elevation, forest coverage of over 60%, and the Dafengding National Nature Reserve. 2023 resident population is about 220,000, of which the Yi ethnic group accounts for 47%.

Social Economy and Specialty Industries

Mabian is an important phosphorus chemical base in western China, with phosphorus mine, tea and bamboo shoots as its leading industries.
